About

Hi, I'm Denise Ela Maley.

I'm a BACP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist & Counsellor who works with adults individuals and couples who have ongoing challenges with depression & anxiety and trouble communicating in their relationships.

My goal is to help you stop feeling overwhelmed and depressed and start checking in with you as we go to ensure we're on track towards positive change.

My Journey To Becoming A Therapist

I'm no different from the clients I see. I'm human and have been through wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I can relate to my clients.

I have lived through the impacts of diet culture and fluctuating weight, high-performance career, and work-related stress, as well as relationship struggles. I know what it means to experience despair and to feel lost and hopeless. I have lived experience of existential dilemma and questions around becoming a biological parent or to live a life childfree by choice. Therapy was core to my healing journey and I offer myself as a skilled ally with lived experience and a great deal of empathy. My life experiences are what lead me to become the therapist I am today.

Helping people is a great privilege to me and deeply fulfilling. Being a therapist is my vocation in life, so I have discovered. I love helping people to rediscover their potential with renewed self-awareness and skills and watching their lives flourish. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is knowing that I made a difference in people's lives.

MyProfessional Background

I received my Masters in Psychotherapy and Healing Practice validated by Middlesex University. Afterwards, I also received my Postgraduate Diploma in Transpersonal Couples Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London, UK. I am also trained in the Rewind Trauma Technique and currently undertaking Master Practitioner Training in Eating Disorders and Obesity with the National Centre for Eating Disorders.

My professional clinical experience includes workplace counselling, university student counselling, women’s issues counselling and play therapy. I currently split my time between my private practice and working as a counsellor at Oxford University. I also have recent experience in a leading London based UK clinic multidisciplinary team as a senior associate psychotherapist working with eating disorders, persons of larger size and basic nutritional coaching.

I hold fully accredited membership of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I abide by their code of Ethics. In addition, I sit on the BACP Workplace Divisional Executive Board and a prior 20 year professional career in international corporate HR positions and remain an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development UK (CIPD).
